So much of what projected me forward are things that happened quietly-
someone reminding me to price my work fairly,
holding down the fort so I could sculpt,
believing in my ideas before I felt “ready,”
and nudging me when I wanted to stay comfortable.(or was too afraid 🥲)

I used to let fear about money decide what I was allowed to dream about and I know I’m not alone in that. It’s not that my finances suddenly changed. My mindset did. Through the support of my hubby and learning to believe in myself, I’m no longer operating from fear or scarcity, but from hope and drive. Something I’ve honestly never considered before 🫠

This post is really about gratitude

Yap with me ☁️My thought process on how I’m approaching making my market collection 🍞🥐 when I first began making my collection, I was focused on quantity instead of quality and then I paused and asked myself “why am I trying to compete with people who have manufactured products?” I’m not a machine. The value in my art is that it’s handmade. I don’t need to have hundreds and hundreds of polymer clay art. I need to focus on telling the story, being intentional about my marketing, and making pieces that I love, and hopefully other people will love as well.

I take my product photos outside cause I can’t be bothered to fiddle with lighting inside 😅 it makes me somewhat emotional to see the tree I use as a backdrop changing with the seasons. Not to be cheesy but it just reminds me of how far I’ve come and how quickly the year has gone by. When I started in April, I was just over one month post partum. Now my baby is trying to stand up on his own, I’m in my first holiday season as an artist, growing my little page and coming up on my first market ever. 🥹 this wasn’t meant to be an emotional post LOL it was suppose to be a commentary on my disappointment that Canada’s winter is now here. But here we are. If you’ve read this far, thank you 😅💕

Djinn Venus from golden sun 2 inches tall☀️ ~

I loved the creative challenge of this commission. Getting the angles right and figuring out the details was such a great brain workout lol. To create the tall spikes I used super sculpey firm.

It holds its form perfectly, there are no supports (foil or wire) inside. It was my first time working with this medium and it’s inspired so many more ideas and definitely has my cogs turning ⚙️

For a long time, I carried a quiet shame around buying things for myself.

There was guilt tangled up with money, fear, and the urge to overcorrect for the hoarding I grew up with.

I thought I was being practical, that everything I owned had to be useful, otherwise it was a waste of money.

Somewhere along the way, I learned that my happiness didn’t count as function.
That something beautiful or cute couldn’t also be worthwhile.

But I see it differently now.
Every “practical” choice I made came from a fear of something that was no longer true, instead of what I actually wanted.

This isn’t about spending money or whether minimalism is right or wrong , it’s about noticing the difference between choices made from protection and choices made from genuine desires.

The moment you start choosing from love instead of fear, even the smallest things like a keychain, or a trinket that makes you smile become symbols of trust in yourself. 🤍

1. Everyone says use a qtip with alcohol to clean dust off polymer clay. But wiping down EVERYTHING and wearing the right clothes before you start will make that 1000% easier

2. YOUR EYE PIN WILL FALL OUT. WHY didn’t anyone tell me 😭 you need to find a method to secure it that works for you and TEST IT!

3. Why is Sculpey 3 polymer clay so bad?? Everyone was so ominous about it 😅 Sculpey 3 can be very soft to work with (finger prints and doesn’t hold its shape) and is brittle and fragile after it’s baked. Sculpey premo (the most recommended) is more firm and rubbery/flexible after baked.

4. Any contact point (arms, legs, ears) you add needs to be secure beyond blending the seams!! I thought blending the seams and using UV resin would make the polymer clay drop proof. I learned immediately that you need MORE otherwise it breaks clean off 😭 I score + if needed use liquid clay and wires!

5. Do NOT cheap out on your keychain findings. They WILL break and risk breaking or losing your art. Jumprings especially should be stainless steel.

6. Uv resin as a glaze is beautiful but is NOT foolproof. It’s highly toxic to people and animals, you need to buy separate PPE (respirator, disposable gloves) and it’s not simple to work with. You can get uneven surfaces, air bubbles or chemical reactions. There is a learning curve that’s never shown in “process” videos!

4. Any contact point you add needs to be secure beyond blending the seams!! I thought blending the seams and using UV resin would make it drop proof. I learned immediately that you need MORE. I score + if needed liquid clay and wires!

5. Do NOT cheap out on your keychain findings. They WILL break and risk breaking or losing your art. Jumprings especially should be stainless steel.

6. Uv resin as a glaze is beautiful but is NOT foolproof. It’s highly toxic to people and animals, you need to buy separate PPE (respirator, disposable gloves) and it’s not simple to work with. You can get uneven surfaces, air bubbles or chemical reactions. There is a learning curve that’s never shown in “process” videos!

1. YOUR EYE PIN WILL FALL OUT. WHY didn’t anyone tell me 😭 you need to find a method to secure it that works for you and TEST IT!

2. Everyone says use a qtip with alcohol to clean dust. But wiping down EVERYTHING and wearing the right clothes before you start will make that 1000% easier

3. Why is Sculpey 3 so bad?? Everyone was so ominous about it 😅 Sculpey 3 can be very soft to work with (finger prints and doesn’t hold its shape) and is brittle and fragile after it’s baked. Sculpey premo (the most recommended) is a little more firm and rubbery/flexible after baked.
