Why are polymer clay workshops so long?

The average polymer clay workshop ranges from about 2-4 hours. Polymer clay workshops at Sleepy Eve Studio fall within the 3-4 hour range.
Why are they so long? Are they that thorough? Is it going to be overwhelming?
You may be thinking "I'm not that artistic, this might be too much for me"
But actually the answer is more inviting than you may think.
Our polymer clay workshops are structured to be relaxing, give you enough guidance that you're not overwhelmed with too much creative freedom (yes! it's a thing) but also give you some flexibility so you can personalize your art.
The standard polymer clay workshop works like this: 1 hour - Introductions, conditioning clay, sculpting basic shapes, texturing
1 hour - Baking the clay in the oven, letting it cool down, enjoying a snack or searching pinterest for inspiration for more crafts
Final hour - Painting, glazing and pictures!

Within that first hour of sculpting, the instructions and execution really can be as quick as 30 minutes. But the other time is spent letting people play -
What does that mean?
Starting over again because you didn't like your shape, or adding fun details to personalize the project, adding an adorable face to make it even cuter, or using your extra clay to make something else entirely!
There's actually a lot of down time to play and explore in our workshops, because we want to give the people who are zoned in on perfectionism, the full time that they need to feel satisfied and proud.
Has this ever been an issue?
No, actually. You'd be surprise how many people get lost in the zone and get creative. We follow the flow of the respective classes and move with a pace that fits everyone.
It's the perfect middle ground: Not too structured that you feel overwhelmed to stick to the rules and time frames, and not too loose that you're bored and constantly waiting.
